Design Philosophy

Graphic design is something that should be admired by everyone, from pedestrian to designer. Everywhere we go there is some sort of design aspect that helps our lives in ways we don’t even realize, whether it’s telling us where to go in a building or giving us an overall understanding of a company. Just because there are practical uses for design does not mean that it has to be boring. I believe that design can be fun and artistic to convey an important purpose. In order to achieve that there must be skill and experience involved. With art, it’s mostly about reflecting who you are as a person and communicating your feelings and thoughts. As a designer, it’s mostly focused on the message you are trying to communicate and not necessarily your own personal agenda, but I think incorporating your own personal style is still very important.

How the design is crafted, and the quality of the design is just as important as the product it is representing. There is so much power within design and it doesn’t get recognized all the time. No one would want to trust a product, person, or organization if their branding looks cheap or easily done. I think that’s where the personality of the designer has to come through and make it something truly unique. The quality of design can’t be skipped or overlooked. So much thought and time goes into every aspect of design, the process is the foundation to a quality, unique design.

When the design is of good quality, it should almost be a universal conversation. It should be clear what the message is so that people of all backgrounds can understand the same thing. Miscommunication might be inevitable in some situations, but in general design should be something that is understood by everyone.
